Configure Email for Outlook

Published On: January 8, 2013By Tags: , ,

Be sure to replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name.

  1. Your/Display name: anything you want
  2. Email address: enter the full address (name@yourdomain.com)
  3. Type of connection: POP3 or IMAP
  4. Incoming mail server: mail.yourdomain.com
  5. Outgoing mail server: mail.yourdomain.com
  6. Outgoing mail server does require authentication.
  7. Incoming mail port: 110 for POP3, 143 for IMAP
  8. Outgoing mail port: 25 (If 25 does not work, try 26, as some ISPs block port 25)

** No SSL boxes should be checked **

Note: If you want a secure connection using SSL, please refer to the related article.

  • Username/Account name: must be the full email address (name@yourdomain.com).
  • Sometimes this setting won’t work until you replace the @ with a + in the username.
  •  Password: the email password. Do NOT use SPA (secure password authentication).

Thanks for this. Microsoft does like to move their menus around without substantially changing functionality. I love Outlook, though.

I haven’t used Outlook is what feels like ages, but I think it’s only been a couple years or so. I don’t tend to steer towards anything Microsoft, but sometimes work places will have you use it as a company email, so I’ll keep this in mind.
